Optimus runs with Heatmaster dual fuel heating system
The first LNG bunkering vessel in the Gulf of Finland, Optimus, uses Heatmaster’s dual fuel boiler running on Boil of Gas (BOG) and backup of Marine Gas Oil. Optimus is a 100m long vessel, built at Damen Shipyards Yichang. It completed its gas trials in Damen Verolme Rotterdam shipyard before being delivered to its owner, Infortar. The vessel is chartered to the energy company Elenger and will be serving LNG-powered vessels and smaller shoreside customers.

Today, is operating more than 35 shipyards around the world and has an international presence in more than 120 countries, making it one of the leaders in the field. Damen is involved in ship construction as well as maintenance and repair activities. It has a wide product range, including tugs, workboats, patrol craft, cargo vessels, dredgers, superyachts and fast ferries. Product design and engineering are carried out in-house and a broad range of designs are available.
Heatmaster, being one of the global leaders for maritime heating systems, worked closely together with Damen shipyard and supplied the boiler system. Heatmaster is proud to take the next step to green fuels and contribute to a cleaner maritime environment. Of course, this is only one of the first steps. In order to reduce the CO2 footprint of the vessels, Heatmaster is already selling the in house developed Organic Rankine Cycle system to produce electricity from the recovered heat of the vessels. Apart from this we are investigating the use of methanol or ethanol as a fuel for our boilers to further reduce CO2. For cutting emissions while at berth the electrical boilers and heaters can be used.
